Italian Black and Gold Ceramic Box, 1960s

Italy, 1960s. Black lacquered ceramic, heightened with gold trim, is a classic of Italian tableware and desk accessories, between sobriety and refinement. This elongated box is an elegant illustration of it. The body, in glossy black ceramic with rounded corners, is edged with a fine gold line that underlines the join between lid and base. Inside, a silvered rim, in contrast, closes the composition with an unexpected metallic touch. Good overall condition: the black glaze is glossy and free of chips, the gold and silver trim remain crisp and well preserved. At 19 cm long by 10.5 cm wide and 5 cm high, this elongated box sits on a desk or console, for pens or small objects. A sober, graphic object with discreet refinement.
